Villa Ampella at Podere Ampella

Villa Ampela is located off the main square of the hamlet. It occupies the far left hand corner and has its own garden on two sides of the property. Inside the villa has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to four people.
The entrance leads into a hallway with stairs leading to the first floor and the lounge to the left. The villa has the traditional Tuscan terracotta tiled floors and tiled and beamed ceilings throughout. The comfortable lounge area has a large sofa, coffee table and flat screen satellite TV with DVD player. A further doorway from the lounge leads to a ground floor cloakroom with basin and WC.
A brick archway takes you through to the dining area which has a traditional wooden table and matching chairs for six people and double doors opening out onto the patio. The whole of the ground floor is very light and airy with plenty of windows allowing light to flood in.
The kitchen is through another brick archway off to the side of the dining room. This has built in units arranged in an ‘L’ shape along two walls; equipped with oven, separate gas hobs, a dishwasher and fridge freezer. Another set of double doors open out onto the patio area, which is furnished with dining table and chairs. The patio has great views over the surrounding countryside and is a lovely spot to sit and relax with a drink or a meal.
The first floor has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, both with full size bath and hand held showers with WC, bidet and basin. The first bedroom located next to the bathroom at the top of the stairs is very spacious and has a double bed with a separate dressing area with a large wardrobe and writing desk and chair. The second bedroom has twin beds with an ensuite bathroom.
A lovely light and airy villa with its own garden and great views over the surrounding countryside.

Podere Ampella gives you the chance to live the relaxed Tuscan lifestyle in the idyllic setting of this exceptional hilltop hamlet overlooking the wonderful Val d’Orcia landscape, a landscape so unique that UNESCO has listed it as a world heritage site. This is the perfect location to relax and unwind, where you can choose to do as much or as little as you wish.
This newly built hamlet has a collection of eleven privately owned villas and apartments finished to a very high standard. The hamlet has been designed in the traditional Tuscan style using local materials and the typical architectural style.
All the properties are fully furnished and well equipped; each has its own private terrace or garden and two of the villas have their own private pool. The shared pool has a paved surround furnished with loungers and parasols and is set in a stunning position overlooking the surrounding countryside.
Podere Ampella hamlet is positioned between the historic towns of San Giovanni d’Asso and Montisi where there are plenty of restaurants, shops and banks. The hamlet is ideally situated for exploring Tuscany with the cities of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa and Lucca within easy reach, or venture over the border into Umbria to visit the historic cities of Assisi, Orvieto and Perugia.

The shared pool is located at the rear of the hamlet, where it has commanding views over the valley below. The pool is rectangular in shape and has a paved surround which is furnished with sun loungers and parasols.
The pool measure 12.5 metres x 8 metres and has a constant depth of 1.5 metres.Access is via ladder at one end. Pool towels are provided for an extra cost per week.Opoen from end of May to mid September.
Nearest town
San Giovanni D’Asso is a delightful hilltop town only 3kms from Ampella Hamlet. Dating back to medieval times the village surrounds the walls of a twelfth century castle. Here you will find traditional Tuscan restaurants and shops selling the local produce. The town boasts the only truffle museum in Italy, as well as hosting an annual truffle festival in November each year. There are also two important churches; the Romanesque church, San Giovanni Battista, and San Pietro in Villare. The picturesque Tuscan town of Montisi is 4kms from Ampella Hamlet. In August each year there is the annual jousting competition “Giostra di Simone” which sees many of the townsfolk dress up in medieval costume.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
