La Macinaia is located in the Tuscan hills, a short distance from the village Montebenichi where there is a typical Tuscan osteria. The villa is a rustic villa perfect for family groups looking to spend time relaxing at the villa and doing some sight-seeing.
From the spacious, hedged garden there are excellent views of vineyards, olive groves and forests that cover the surrounding Chianti countryside. Below the villa there is large pool with diving board and surrounded by sun-bed and umbrellas. Next to the pool is a bathroom with shower and a kitchenette.
The old farm house has been restored to a comfortable standard with large spacious rooms. In front of the entrance to La Macina there is a terrace furnished with table and chairs to dine al fresco.
The entrance leads into a large open-plan room, with high windows letting in lots of light. To one side of the room there are a couple of armchairs and wicker chairs around an open fireplace. In the centre of the room is a typical Tuscan farmhouse wooden dining table that seats up to 12 people on two wooden benches and a couple of chairs.
To the other side of the room is a full equipped kitchen, furnished with gas hobs, oven, fridge with freezer, dishwasher and microwave. The worktops and sink are all made with travertine. Off the kitchen there is a little hall which leads to a bathroom with jacuzzi bath, above which there is a shower head.
From the downstairs hall there is an internal staircase which leads into a triple bedroom that is furnished with a small single bed and double bed, large wardrobe with drawers, and a writing desk. The double bed in this room can be converted into a twin on request when booking.
Passing through a door to one side of the bedroom there is a corridor. Off the corridor there is a large bathroom with tub and separate shower. To the far end of the corridor is a bedroom with double bed, large wardrobe with drawers. The window overlooks the gardens and the pretty view of Tuscany that lays beyond.
To the back of this bedroom there is a door leading into another bedroom. In this third bedroom there is a double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The large window over looks the front garden and lets in plenty of light.
Going back into the corridor there is access to an external staircase which leads down to the front garden. Off the corridor is also a door leading to a small kitchenette and dining room, which also has access to the external staircase. From the kitchenette there is a little corridor which leads to a spacious double bedroom with wardrobe and chest of drawers. The window have excellent views. At the end of the hall and up a single step there is a bathroom with shower.
La Macina is on a country road which leads to a little hamlet, an occasional car passes.
The villa is wonderfully clean.
Although the villa is excellent for families, care must be taken on the steps down to the pool.

The large pool is located on a lower level compared to the villa. It's reached from a paved terrace, down a flight of stone steps which are unstable in places. The pool is surrounded by a lawn and has wide open views of the Tuscan countryside covered with olive groves, vineyards and forests.
At the pool area there is a bathroom with shower and a small kitchenette. Around the pool are sun-beds, umbrellas and a table with chairs. At the deep end there is a diving board.
The pool is 14x7 meters and 1.2-3 meters deep. It's open from May to September.

Nearest town
The nearest restaurant is about 1.5km in the village Montebenichi, and the nearest village for shopping is 10km in San Gusme' while a large town with several amenities is Castelnuovo Berardenga, approximately 17km away.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
