FAQ
L'Agrifoglio
Location address: Gaiole in Chianti - Siena
L'Agrifoglio is a lovely detached cottage in a tiny typical Tuscan hamlet of 18th century farmhouses called Bricciano inhabited by local people. The cottage has carefully been restored by its present owner, a English speaking artist, to provide a comfortable home with terracotta floors and ceilings supported by wooden beams throughout.

For the use of the guests of L'Agrifoglio and forty meters from the cottage across the hamlet is the swimming pool which is surrounded by a large south facing private garden with beautiful views of the Chianti hills of vineyards, olive groves and oak forest. The owners occasionally use the pool.
The cottage boasts a lovely covered furnished terrace that has terracotta floors and the terracotta roof supported by wooden beams. This is a shaded and secluded place conveniently by the kitchen to sit and dine while enjoying the Tuscan evenings al fresco. The cottage is entered down a few steps from the terrace.
L'Agrifoglio consists of two floors. The main entrance is gained across the loggia terrace into a reception/living area. There is a comfortable sofa and lounge chairs. The room is equipped with SAT TV (news only), CD player and there is a fireplace ideal for early spring and later autumn evenings. Fire wood can be provided on request, it is paid for according to consumption. To the right side of the same room there is a fully equipped family kitchen which includes gas hobs, fridge/freezer, electric oven and dishwasher. There is a typically Tuscan dining table with four matching chairs for dining inside the cottage.

From the main living area you enter a small corridor which provides access to a bathroom with shower and the washing machine. Next to the bathroom is a bright twin bedroom with beside cabinets and reading lamps and a wardrobe. On request when booking this room can be made into a double, if you do not request it the house will be as described.

From the corridor there is a stairwell which leads up to the first floor. Upstairs there is a beautiful double bedroom with a low wooden bed and matching bedside tables with reading lamps, chest of draws and wardrobe. On the first floor there is a second small but well designed bathroom with a shower.

Across the hall is a luminous and spacious second double bedroom. It has a pretty wooden bed, dresser and wardrobe. Completing the room are two comfortable armchairs. From the windows there are lovely views of the countryside.
If you request a cot it will be made up in the upstairs bedroom unless you specify otherwise.

The owners request no pets.
At the villa, filtered fresh drinking water is available.

The aircon is by consumption: each unit is on a separate meter.
The wifi access is on the terrace outside the house only. The walls are too thick to let the rays pass through.

What were the highlights of your holiday? Visiting all the nearby towns and drinking coffee in their piazza's. We were very luck with the weather, so all our photo's are filled with bright blue sky. The local wildlife was fabulous to see,
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    The accomodation was fabulous. The size of the master bedroom is the size of the downstairs of my house. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Drinking water was provided free as it came from the local well, a lovely thought. Every utensil and appliance was available, so it made staying their very easy.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us?

What were the highlights of your holiday? The location of our rental was ideal for our purposes. We were close to all the cities that we wanted to visit. I do think that our greatest highlight was being away from the turist hoard. It gave us a chance to experience more of the real character of Tuscany. The small towns of the Chianti region have so much to offer that I think we enjoyed them the most. The food and wine is without comparison.
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Pretty much what was expected. A little more rustic than anticipated but not disagreeable. The road leading to the actual property was a bet rough. I'm glad that the weather was dry as if it had been raining it could have been quite an adventure. The actual accommodation was very clean and comfortable. As in all remote locations of Europe the water could have been better but not a great deal of a problem. Owners of the property could not have been more helpful. Any and all questions were answered with the greatest of curtesy.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? I can honestly say that this vacation went off with out a hitch. The weather was fantastic. Not a drop of rain until the afternoon before we left. Could not have asked for better.
Do you have any other comments? On our last day in the Chianti region we were in the little town of Radda. We stopped at a very small outside cafe for some lunch. The weather was warm and sunny. A perfect fall day. The following morning were to leave for three nights in Rome. As we sat enjoying the food and wine we happend to mention to our waitress that tomorrow we were off to Rome. She remarked, why go to Rome when you are here in Paradise. We sat at the cafe for the better part of three hours. The food, drink, company and scenery were like a drug. When it finally came to leave I said to the waitress the indeed she was right, it was a Paradise. I can only hope to return some day and enjoy it again.

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs? Highlights?
Nein

What were the highlights of your holiday? Cooking class with Luciana, what a terrific experience. We cooked up a five course meal and dined like kings that evening. We celebrated our 30th anniversary here at L'Agrifoglio and couldn't think of a better place to be. Market day at Panzano, day in Sienna, lazy afternoons in the main piazza of Gaiole in Chianti. There were so many highlights. The best highlight of this accommodation though is Holly herself.
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Wonderful, wonderful accommodation. Holly, Lucca, Chiara and Giarda were a joy and couldn't have been more helpful. They treated us more like friends than guests. The villa was so comfortable, lovely and warm. The beds were to die for, lovely soft feather pillows and warm snuggly feather doonas. A beautiful atmosphere in the hamlet, with cats and dogs to say hello to each day. To say we enjoyed staying at L'Agrifoglio would be an understatement.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? No!!
Do you have any other comments? Highly recommend L'Agrifoglio to all. I would go back tomorrow!

Our Italy vacation was truly outstanding in many ways thanks to you and your excellent service.  We have been showing pictures of our trip to many of our family and friends and we've heard this comment more than once, "How did you find this gorgeous place?"  Of, course we readily give out your web site.
Your service was wonderful.  I particularly liked your prompt responses to my e-mails and your detailed instructions and suggestions.  As to our accomodation, I can only say that it's not often that an accomodation exceeds my expectations.  This one did!  Also, our hosts were absolutely wonderful.
You get an A+++
Louise (US)

Overall impression: The host and the lovely weather.
Highlights: When the host invited us to dinner the last evening.
The wonderful roads in Tuscany and the lovely small cities like San Gimignano, and of course the Italian food.
Unpleasant surprises: No.
Lars (Sweden)

Overall impression: Absolutely charming!  It was immaculate, had everything that we needed right down to the most amazing views from our bedroom windows.  The grounds were impeccable with huge pots of shrubs, flowers, and herbs artfully placed on the patios and around our villa.  Holly and Lucca, our hosts were delightful.  They were accomodating, helpful, friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant and memorable.
Highlights: Lucca's pizza.  Our hosts had us for supper one evening and Lucca made the most amazing pizzas.  We were happily surprized and pleased to have been invited into their home and treated as friends.
Unpleasant surprises: Not really.  The traffic in Florence was an eye-opener!  And the parking or should I say the lack of parking in all of the cities was a challange to say the least.  We solved this by driving to the nearest train station and taking the train into the bigger cities.  Much more relaxing and not as stressful.  All part of the Italian Adventure.
Linda (Canada)
Dear Dympna Docherty,
We enjoyed our holiday in L'Agrifoglio, it was just perfect.
Here are our comments on the questions you asked us to answer:
The villa was really what we expected it to be, beautifully furnished
and homely, very well kept, too. The rooms were comfortable and there
was enough room for four people in the house. The kitchen was well
equipped for our needs. The surroundings with the vine yards and olive
groves were so peaceful. We also enjoyed the large terrace.
Highlights: Luca and Holly, the hosts, were unbelievably friendly and
helpful and made us feel at home. We  did a lot of sightseeing driving
along the small country roads and visited Sienna, San Giminiano,
Cortona, Pisa, Florence (by train) and many small towns and villages.
The villa is conveniently situated for visiting places. For me the
absolute highlights were the days spent by the pool painting and
enjoying the Tuscan colours and sunshine. The town festival in Gaiole
was also an nice experience. We spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon with
our Italian friends who came to visit us.
There were no unpleasant surprises at all.

Overall impression: EXCELLENT! IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE EXPECTED. YOUR WEBSITE GAVE AN ACCURATE DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMMODATION AND THERE WERE NO DISAPPOINTMENTS.
Highlights: THE WONDERFUL PEACEFUL HIDE-A-WAY OF L'AGRIFOGLIA AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT ALL THE WELL KNOWN AND LESSER KNOWN SIGHTS IN THE AREA, I.E. SIENA, AREZZO, CORTONA, VOLTERRA, SAN GIMIGNANO, VERTINE, ETC. WE DID IT ALL AND LOVED IT.
AND OF COURSE OUR SUPER FRIENDLY HOSTS, HOLLY AND LUCA MADE OUR STAY MEMORABLE. THIS IS CERTAINLY A PLACE WE WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS.
Unpleasant surprises: NO

Hans and Christa Schlechta (Canada)
Overall impression: The location of the accommodation was fantastic. The setting was so beautiful that each morning I would wake up and exclaim: "Yep, another day in paradise!" L'Agrifoglio had everything we needed, was well laid out and perfectly comfortable.
Highlights: We were within an hour's drive of everything we wanted to see and do.
Driving around the countryside and exploring the towns in the Chianti hills was a definite highlight. The same feelings came flooding back to me on a return trip to Sienna. That town takes my breath away.
Our hosts Holly and Luca were terrific and very generous with the attention they gave us. We felt very much at home.
Unpleasant surprises: There were absolutely no unpleasant surprises.
Davina Machin (Australia)
Overall impression: amazed..it was even more beautiful than we had
imagined. accomadation was superb with 2 large bedrooms and a fab bathroom with power shower for each, very well equipped kitchen with a sofa to chill out on, super outdoor dining room perfect for late night drinking and card playing, plus the most stunning secluded swimming pool...this was all surrounded by vines, olive groves or woods... and with the lovely family on site and holly's fab attention to detail it took it to from very comfortable to perfect.
Highlights: my highlights included... laying by the beautiful
pool gazing at the clouds, listening only to the birds surrounded by woods and olive trees.....photos of me running through field of sunflowers..... the owners in the house next door...such a lovely family who had renovated the place themselves and were so friendly and an amazing source of local info.holly taught me to make tirimasu and even had a bbq for us and the hamlet so we could watch the world cup final.
Unpleasant surprises: mozzies and horseflies!
you do have to drive to get anywhere on unlit dirt tracks..but the place is so fab we tended to go out in the day ie siena, markets, lunch in the sun or wine tasting then spend late afternoon by the amazing pool, cook and just relax at the villa so no-one had to drive!

Absolutely loved the accommodation and the weather it was magic. I have no complaints at all-the owners were lovely and welcoming. The ambience of the property was just wonderful. We got continually lost driving around but that is Italy
Michela-to add to your service questions. all the directions were fine the frist time into the property was the only time we did not get lost in Italy!!!

Overall impression: We loved our Tuscan villa. It was definitely our home away from home. The villa was exceptionally clean and had all the basic accommodations. Our hosts, Luca & Holly, were extremely kind and made sure we were comfortable and happy.
Highlights: We spent two days in Venice, then a week in Tuscany, a night in Florence, and three days in the Cinque Terre. Tuscany was our favorite and a place which we will return to SOON!
Unpleasant surprises: NONE! Your description of the villa was right on target which resulted in having our expectations met upon arrival. You had no "false advertisements" which we greatly appreciate and respect. Thank you for your services and we will use your service again. We have already recommended "To Tuscany" to several friends.

overall impression - It was exactly as we pictured it. Beautiful surroundings and VERY clean accommodations.
holiday highlights - The hosts, Holly and Luca, were so incredibly kind and hospitable. They were the absolute best part of the holiday.
unpleasant surprises - Everything was FANTASTIC - the only thing I might mention is that there were quite a few bugs (very large bugs with lots of tentacles) that, of course, are part of the nature of Tuscany; but they were sometimes inside the apartment which was, at times, a little off-putting.
Comments of clients from California
Met our expectations - the property matched up with the photos and was of a very high standard. Beautiful, quiet setting and friendly proprietors.

A short video of the property
Overall impression: very nice. It had lots of character and rustic charm
Highlights: Our trip's to Arezzo and Lucca
Unpleasant surprises: The heating was very expensive at 9 euro per basket of wood and the gas heating was charged at 4 Euro per unit. A unit roughly lasted about 2 hours. It was still quite cold during our visit and the extre haeting expense was higher than expected.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
