Squalo at Cernaia

Squalo is a lovely villa with a private garden at the front and back. It has a covered patio to enjoy dining al fresco. There are beautiful views from the garden and windows over the area around the shared swimming pool of the hamlet Cernaia. A private parking for two cars is just to the back of the villa.
From the central hamlet gardens, the villa is entered crossing a private garden and covered terrace furnished with table and chairs. The terrace provides direct access to the living area where there is a table and chairs for dining indoors and a kitchen, which is equipped with fridge/freezer and electric hobs.
In the lounge there is a comfortable sofa and a TV. The lounge and covered terrace are perfectly connected to enjoy indoor and outdoor life at the same time.
On one side of the living area there is a bathroom with shower and one double bedroom; to the other side there is a bedroom that has bunk beds perfect for children.
The bedrooms overlook the back garden and one of them has a door leading to this garden.

Cernaia is a pretty collection of villas just a few minutes drive from the Mediterranean coast, in the Maremma area of Southern Tuscany. The location is ideal to enjoy the coast and also the Brunnello wine area around Montalcino which is only 1 hour drive away.
The well maintained, sunny gardens around the villas are graced by palm trees on manicured lawns criss-crossed with paths towards the two swimming pools.
At the property there is covered parking for the residents. The villas make a semi circle around the pool area. Each has its own garden which overlooks the grounds and then onto the fields around the property and the rolling hills beyond. On the horizon to the east you can make out the Monte Agentario and on clear days also Isola del Giglio.

Pool Info
The swimming pool is located in the centre of Cernaia. It is encircled by the independent villas on 3 sides while the fourth is open onto the fields that surround the property. Between the pool area and the villas there is a pretty park area creating a distance of about 50meters between the pool area and the villas.
The pool area consists of two swimming pools, a large pool and a children’s pool. Around the pools there are gazebos and sun beds.
The large pool is 7x12 meters and 0.80 to 1.40 meters deep. The children’s pool is 5x7 meters and 0.80 meters deep. Both are open from May to October.
The sea
In about 6.5km you arrive at the Marina di Grosseto which has wide sandy beaches with typical Italian ’baths’ which are areas of the beach set up with umbrellas and sun beds that you can use for a daily fee. Otherwise you can go to the free part of the beach.
A good beaches are also found around Castiglione della Pescaia, which is a pretty recreational port town. Here there are both beaches with the ’baths’ and also free beaches. When you visit this little town it is worth stopping to buy some fish from the local fishermen who sell their fish along the walkway around the port.
For a rocky beach you have to go slightly further north of Castiglione della Pescaia to Le Rocchette.

The nearest town, Macchiascandona, is 2km away, it has a bar and restaurant. Six kilometres away is Grosseto which is a large town and has all amenities.

Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? The address needs to be more specific especially for those typing in the address using GPS. It took us a very long time to find it and we then had two hungry and tired children shich wasn't ideal

Gab es unangenehme Überraschungen? Ja. Defekte Stühle und es gab keinen Sonnenstoren. Die anderen Häuser hatten alle Sonnenstoren, nur wir nicht. Wir hatten nur diese Bambusrolladen, die überhaupt nichts brachten (bei Regen hatte man keine Aussicht und bei Sonnenschein ebenfalls. Es war sehr beengend wenn der Bambusrolladen runter gerollt war.
Haben Sie andere Anmerkungen? Nein. Wir hatten trotzdem einen schönen Urlaub und hatten uns gesagt wir werden sicherlich wieder in die Toscana reisen. Vielleicht auch wieder auf die Residenz Cernaia, wenn die Mängel geändert wurden.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
